Portside lateral buoys
A portside lateral buoy (green) marks the port (left) side of a channel or the location of a hazard to be left on the port (left) side when the vessel is proceeding upstream.
Starboard lateral buoys
A starboard buoy (red) marks the starboard (right) side of a channel or the location of a hazard to be left on starboard (right) when the vessel is proceeding upstream.
